At what point do you just say, "The heck with it."
So at what point do you all say, "the heck with it" and just merchant weapons, mods, offhands...etc because you can't get any buyers? I'll admit that I'm not the most patient person, but it seems very, very difficult to find buyers while in game. I'm running low on inventory space and I have a fair amount of mods, runes, weapons and other various items that per the Ventari price check guides would be worth tens of thousands of gold. Really the only stuff I've been able to sell was a couple mini pets, Victo's Axe and a few FDS.
I guess I'm not overly concerned with trying to make a lot of money versus just getting rid of the stuff to clear inventory space, but its funny how I can try to sell things for 25%-50% of their suggested prices (based on Ventari forum) and not get a single bite.
Anyway, I'm nearly ready to merchant most of my mods and such because the lack of buyers out there. I was just curious how many people went ahead and just merchant a lot of their stuff even though they knew it was worth quite a lot more than what the merchant gets you.

Once the inscription system went live, selling became obsolete.
If you find a good weapon, post it on guru, bump every 24 hours, and hope to find a buyer.

I merch almost everything. It was hard enough selling before, but now it's pretty easy to make a "perfect" weapon with inscriptions.
I don't think I sold a weapon to another player since shortly after Factions came out and the Zodiac weapons were hot.

Isn't the inscription system only applicable to Nightfall stuff though? I only have Prophecies and I seem to recall buying an inscription and trying to add it to an item of mine and it would not work.

Changes to salvaging allowing you to select which mod you want and inscriptions killed the market. That which is left seems to be dominated by a select number of hardcore traders who'll close the deal before you send the first PM
And WTS rarely worked in the first place. Look for WTB if you want to sell fast.

I only keep what I see is worth selling. Because there are still things people want, you just have to sit and town then know what to keep and what not to keep. I merch most things or give them away though, because you basically have to give them away..to get rid of them.

Well, 'worth' is relative. It might be worth more according to guru, but if you can't get a buyer within the time you're willing to spend selling, then it's either worth one inventory slot or worth merchant value.
High end items (Stats wise) are easier to get than ever, Nightfall probably doubled the available amount of green weapons, and they're available in practically any combination of mods between the three campaigns, so the value of gold weapons and seperate mods is dropping fast imo, especially in view of the mulititude of common green farming builds. So the only weapons you managed to sell were a green and a couple of FDSs? Not surprised, since an FDS is a popular skinned weapon without being priced to match crystallines and so on.
I don't usually bother selling mods or gold weapons any more: If you're not into skins over stats you won't buy them, and if you are into skins over stats you'll only want the latest fad skins like elemental swords...
Plus, trading spam is getting so bad now that a lot of people are wandering around with local and trade turned off, and you can't really blame them. Upshot: Unless / untill the trading system is improved, and as long as green weapons are easily obtainable, it's hardly worth selling your drops. I give mine away to friends or use them myself, its more satisfying in the end!

I can count on one hand the times I've ever sold anything to someone other than the merchant. Just too much of a hassle.

I'm with you.
It comes down to inventory space and time.
If I think that I might use a weapon, I'll keep it regardless of market value. If that's not the case, I will generally merch a weapon if I believe that it's market value is less than 10k (meaning I'll advertise it at 5k-7k for a quick sell).
On inscriptions and mods... I usually keep the ones that I might use myself, or perfect mods which guru lists with a floor price of 2k (or even as low as 1k if I think that it's a particularly useful or hard-to-find mod). I'm sure I have some that are worth less tucked away on my mules, but I try to conserve inventory space when I can.
It's funny to advertise something at waaaaaay below market price in the trade channel. Sometimes I'll get 5-8 instant PM's such as "mine!", "i'll buy", "ok", or other similar short & easy to fire off responses.
When I'm rolling in money, I usually only ask for less than 60% of an items value. If I need money and don't mind waiting a little longer for a buyer, I'll bump the prices.
Oh... and if I'm chest running... all I really want to do is make back the money I spent on keys. Usually that means that I'll keep the ocassional high valued chest drop to sell later on the market. I merch the rest.

Honestly, anything that I believe I will get less than 5K for in a sale, I simply merchant. I figured out a while ago that in the time I spent trying to find a buyer, I normally could've made that much money (or more) by simply playing the game.
I can count on one hand how many Zealous at 14>50 weapons found their way to the merchant... ;(

I never bother trading anything unless they go easily for 15k or more (ie: usually only +30HP mods). Not worth the migraine of participating in trade spam. Better to just farm Ectos for money or Ectos for FOW armor rather than hang on to mods that only net chump change after being trade spammed. Something that must be trade spammed to be sold for 5k is not even worth taking up the inventory space to me.

like has been said, worth is relative.....I might think that a staff wrapping of mastery 20% is worth a bunch ---to me, while the warrior next to me thinks its not worth the inventory space ---nor the salvaging of it in the first place. Guru is just a guild, not law-----many of the people playing have no idea about guru so quoting 'its what they said on guru' might mean the same as its what my 2nd grade teacher said.....take it in stride.....if you really want to sell and people just say its too much, ask what they would pay....at least you might get more than the merchant will pay you......or mech it and get the 25g.

Trying to sell stuff in the game for high prices distracts me from playing the real game. I always sell well below market value and make good deals for my buyers. Most junk is just merchable, asside from a handful of perfect mods. If something is really rare (ie. Dead Sword), I'll throw it on Guru Auction.

Instead of merchanting, why not hold a mini-contest or give them away to newbies? I've often taken greens worth anywhere from 1k-10k, and headed to Shing Jea whispering lowbie characters to see if they want it - free. I've also done things like announced if someone can answer one trivia question, they get some random gold Blah Something-bow of Blah.
You can get rid of stuff fast doing that, and building friendships along the way. It makes you feel better in the end, and what, you missed out on that fabulous 300-400 gold the merchant would give you with a smile.
If you have a ton of mods, I find that making a sale thread listing them all here on GURU is the best. Especially if you sell for a good 25-30% less than the low PC in Ventari's.
The only things really worth selling in-game are golds and greens with estimated (low) PC's over 50k. Everything else is pretty much not worth the time.
Honestly, I don't sell often at all. In fact, I think I may have sold 3 items in-game over the past month. Two of which were mine and my wife's birthday mini's, and only because everyone was falling over themselves to buy up every mini thanks to the "minipet in town" update.

i did the second i realized in order to sell this item i would have to spend alot of time sitting in town auctioning it off. I used to try and sell weapons and got tired of sitting in town, im very impatient and like my money fast so i can get back out killing, questing, farming or wahtever it may be. I find you make money alot faster if you go around killing and merching with the occasional good drop you will sell for alot then trying to sell every gold you get.

Yeah, I merchant almost everything. If a perfect gold drops with a very beautiful skin that I don't remember seeing before, sometimes I'll see if it's rare. I even auctioned one thing here on Guru.
Usually I only wade into trade spam if I want to buy something simple, like trade contracts. Even then I'm bored to tears.
